Essential Tips for Maintaining a Floor Scrubber
Floor scrubbers are invaluable tools for efficiently cleaning floors, especially in large spaces. However, it’s no secret that they aren’t cheap machines. To protect your investment, there are simple steps you can take to maintain the condition of your scrubber so that it continues to deliver optimal performance for many years. Here are some essential tips to help extend the life of your floor scrubber:
Read the User Manual
Before using your floor scrubber, take the time to read the user manual thoroughly. Understanding the manufacturer's guidelines and recommendations will help you operate and maintain the machine correctly.
Complete our Operator Training Course
More of a visual learner? Take your learning one step further by taking our Commercial Auto Scrubber Operator Training course to familiarize yourself with your machine and how to maintain it. You’ll learn about the functions of your floor scrubber, how to inspect and replace wearable parts, as well as how to safely use, effectively clean, and properly maintain the machine.
Sweep Debris Before Scrubbing
Before using your floor scrubber, sweep up any excess debris from your cleaning path with a floor sweeper, broom, or vacuum. This is a crucial step as debris will clog your scrubber’s components, decreasing its efficiency and exacerbating wear on components leading to damage.
Use Recommended Cleaning Solutions
Always use cleaning solutions recommended by the manufacturer. Using the wrong chemicals can damage the scrubber and void the warranty. When in doubt, a safe choice is BioSolutions Clean & Green™ Super Concentrate.
Regular Cleaning
After every use, rinse the pads/brushes, squeegee blades, debris catch, float screen, and vacuum filter to prevent dirt and debris from accumulating. Once a week, rinse the solution screen. More detailed instructions for cleaning your machine can be found in the Commercial Auto Scrubber Operator Training course.

Empty and Rinse Tanks
Always empty the solution and recovery tanks after each use. Rinse them thoroughly to remove any debris, residue, or buildup. This prevents clogs and keeps the scrubber operating smoothly.
Check and Replace Brushes or Pads
Inspect the brushes or pads regularly for wear and tear. Replace them when they become worn out to ensure effective cleaning. Using worn brushes or pads can damage your floors and reduce the scrubber's efficiency.
Brushes must be replaced after they have worn down to 3/4" thick, or sooner if they are noticeably less efficient. |
Pads must be replaced after they have worn down to 3/8" thick, or sooner if they are noticeably less efficient. |
Inspect, Rotate, and Replace Squeegee Blades
Squeegees play a crucial role in drying the floor. Be sure to check them regularly for damage such as tears, cracks, or waviness. Replace damaged squeegees to maintain effective water pickup.
If they are worn down on one edge but in otherwise good condition, you can flip and rotate the blades to use all four edges of the blade as shown below:

Take Care of Battery and Cables
Inspect the battery and cables regularly. Keep the battery charged and check to make sure the cables are in good condition. Clear any debris or liquid from the battery terminals to prevent corrosion.
If you have wet/flooded batteries, check the battery water level once a week to make sure the lead plates are covered and add distilled water if needed.
Store Properly
When not in use, store your floor scrubber in a clean, dry place. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or moisture, as this can damage the machine.
Schedule Routine Maintenance
Have your floor scrubber serviced by a professional regularly. This can help prevent costly service calls by addressing wear and tear before it becomes an issue, keeping your machine running smoothly.
